Cor Jesu is an opportunity for young adults (and those young at heart!) to come together once a month for Adoration, Reconciliation, and fellowship. For the first few months, adorers will simply sing the O Salutaris/Tatum Ergo. Once we get it going, and depending on the Liturgical season, we can look to add Praise and Worship!
The first hour will consist of Adoration taking place while confessions are being heard. After Adoration, participants gather together for fellowship over volunteer-provided hospitality.
Cor Jesu is targeted for young adults, and young families, but is open to all!
This is why we are calling it young at heart, so those outside the typical young adult age brackets, as well as their small children, are included in the mix. "I make all things new."
As expressed by the USCCB's document, Listen, Teach, Send - A National Pastoral Framework for Ministries with Youth and with Young Adults, the young adult population is a niche demographic that has unique needs for ministry. They are experiencing periods of rapid development that impact their spiritual growth and capacity to serve as disciples.
The typical Young Adult Model sometimes excludes young adult families with children. By orienting our ministry toward the Sacraments, we are removing barriers for young adults with small children to participate (e.g., while there is a time and place for it, we aren't regularly meeting at a bar), while extending our reach to those who are older as well.
Because young adults are hungry for fellowship, we are collaborating with neighboring parishes (and you!) to broaden our reach and to provide new connections/support for this special group of folks.
